With RingMaker, you can form rings easily, quickly and seamlessly out of metal clay. The RingMaker is made of machined acrylic and is reusable. You can make as many rings as you want from any of the sized RingMaker tool sets. The RingMaker is extremely easy to use. Once you've learned a few small tricks, you can fashion a perfect ring in no time. The previously difficult and tiresome steps in making rings from metal clay, such as smoothing out joints or forming a perfect circle, are no longer required with the RingMaker.
There are two types of sets; one for half-round (the ring surface is round) rings and the other for flat (the surface is flat) rings. Both types come in four different mold sizes, 17* , 21* , 25* and 29* .
* Please keep in mind the sizes on RingMakers are Japanese sizes.
- Japanese size 17 is USA size 8 – 8 1/4 (UK size Q)
- Japanese size 21 is USA size 9 ¾ (UK size T-U)
- Japanese size 25 is USA size 111/4 –11 ½ (UK size X)
- Japanese size 29 is USA size 13 (UK size Z+1)
RingMaker sizes are UNFIRED sizes. Use a RingMaker that
is 2-3 sizes larger than the desired fired size.
You can make your own ring very easily with RingMaker. Even if you have never done this before, you can easily fashion a seamless, beautifully molded ring out of metal clay in about 2 minutes. RingMaker lets you be creative with your own designs!!
Half Round RingMaker
The RingMaker Half-Round Ring Set makes a half-round ring that is 4mm in width and 2.6mm in thickness
Estimation of Amount of Clay Needed (When Using PMC3) Because with RingMaker, a ring is molded out of a lump of clay, you will need a bit more clay in the beginning than the actual ring volume. Let the following chart help you in the preparation of clay. As you get more used to using RingMaker, you will need less clay as a beginning amount. The ring volume may vary slightly depending on how you apply pressure.

RingMaker Flat Ring Sets
There are three different ring widths, 5mm, 8mm and 12mm, available in the Flat Ring Basic Set. Each Basic Set includes a part called the "joint" which sets the ring thickness to 2.0mm. Basic Sets are available in sizes 17, 21, 25, and 29.
There are three different ring widths, 5mm, 8mm and 12mm, available in the Flat Ring Joint Set. Each Joint Set includes 3 parts called “joints” to set the ring thickness to 1.5mm, 2.5mm, or 3.5mm. Joint Sets are available in sizes 17, 21, 25, and 29.
For example: Should you purchase both the Flat Ring Basic Set and the Flat Ring Joint Set for 5mm wide size 17, you will be able to create 5mm wide rings in size 17 that are 1.5mm thick, 2.0mm thick, 2.5mm thick or 3.5mm thick. This gives you the absolute most versatility for creating rings. The 3.5mm thickness allows you to create deep carved designs, maximum depth for mold texture designs, ample depth for flush setting gem cut stones (with pavilions, the pointed part on the back), and “spare” thickness to remove for creating ring sizes that are in between the four available sizes.

Estimation of Amount of Clay Needed (When Using PMC3) As with the Half-Round RingMaker, you will begin using more clay to form the rings. After a bit of practice, you will use less clay to make the rings. The following is a table that indicates the approximate amount of clay in each size, width and thickness.
(For the sake of comfort and durability the 12mm wide rings are slightly thicker.)

The included booklet of directions suggests using a “shrinkage stopper” to precisely control the clay shrinkage during firing. PMC123 offers the Ring Sizeminder (developed by Tim McCreight) for that purpose. Also noted is that all the directions and estimates are based on using PMC3 and firing in an electric kiln at 1650 ° F (900 ° Celsius) for 10 minutes. A Trouble shooting section is included. Step-by-step directions for variations on RingMaker applications are included. And last, but not least, is a gallery of 36 different rings made using the RingMaker.
